Twenty-year-old David Lilienfeld, a champion bodyboarder, lost his life to a great white shark on Thursday in Kogel Bay near Cape Town, South Africa.
Though surfing in waters around South Africa carries with it the risk of shark attacks, several sources are discussing the fact that there has been a lot of chumming going on near Kogel Bay. This practice of pouring bloody fish pulp’n’guts into the water to temporarily attract sharks for tourists may cause the animals to linger in the area longer than expected.
